LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM-Namahh # 106

LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM

@ S. Subramaniam

सुधासारभि वर्षिणी (106)

Sudhasarabhi Varshini (106)

Meaning:

Devi, seated at the center of Sahasrara Chakra, keeps showering a nectar-like fluid downwards through all the other Chakras.

Interpretation:

The Namah has to be correctly split as Sudhayaha Asarand Abhi varshayati.  Here Sudha means Amrit or nectar, Saaram means the essence and Varshini means the one who is the cause of the rain or shower.

Generally when we discuss Kundalini Chakras, we refer to only the seven Chakras - Muladhara to Sahasrara. Apart from these major Chakras there are several minor chakras and one such Chakra is the Soma Chakra located right in the middle of Sahasrara.

When Kundalini reaches the Soma Chakra, out of the sheer heat generated by Devi's presence alongside Lord Shiva, the Amrit or nectar, which has been stored there, starts getting melted and drips downwards through the throat and enters the entire nervous system. This process is called Sudha Varsham or the Raining (showering) of nectar and Devi gets the name Sudhasarabhi  Varshini.

Quote from Soundarya Lahari:

सुधाधारासारैश्चरणयुगलान्तर्विगलितैः

प्रपञ्चं सिञ्चन्ती पुनरपि रसाम्नायमहसः।

Sudha Dhara sarai Charaṇa Yugala antar vigalitaih

Prapancham Sinchanti Punarapi Rasa Amnaya Mahasah  |

Adi Shankara praises Devi as : O Devi Parasakti !  Continuous stream of Amrit (nectar-like fluid) flowing out of your divine pair of feet, sprinkles the Universe and the knowledge about the essence of sacred traditions is once again awakened.

The word Rasa has multiple meanings such as juice, essence, etc and this word has also a very secretive meaning pertaining to Lord Shiva. Amnaya means sacred traditions and Mahasa means knowledge. Therefore, Rasa Amnaya Mahasah can be interpreted as the essence of knowledge about sacred traditions. The entire knowledge was imparted by Lord Shiva to Parashakti.

Author's notes:

The very purpose of a Sadhaka to mediate upon Kundalini Chakras is to acquire the supreme knowledge and along Devi's bliss. We have seen how, during the process of meditation by the Sadhaka, makes the Shakti ascend the Chakras from Mooladhara to Sahasrara.

Devi in the form of Shakti does not remain in Sahasrara for long and soon starts her return journey  and reaches its original abode.  The Shakti once again attains the shape of a serpent coiled three and a half times and remains there.
