LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM
@ S. Subramaniam
समयाचार-तत्परा (98)
Samayachara Tatpara (98)
Meaning:
Worshiping Lalita Devi in the Six Kundalini Cakras is called Samayachara.
Interpretation:
It is believed that Lord Shiva himself has prescribed the methods of worshiping the Kundali Chakra. The Lord explains it to Devi details and this narration is summed up in the book called Rudra Yamala.
The word Samaya comes from 'Samayam Yati' which means the equality of Shiva and Shakti. This equality is the essence of Samayachara.
There are five types of equality which are: Adhisthana Samya, Avasthana Samya, Anushtana Samya, Rupa Samya and Nama Samya.
Some scholars are of the view that the path prescribed for worship of the Chakra by the followers of Veda practices such as Vasishta, Suka etc. has come to be known as Samaya Achara.
Author's Notes:
I have always attempted to link verses from Soundarya Lahiri with the names of Devi elaborated in LSN. I have found that there is a wonderful connection between the two, one written by Vaag Devis and the other composed by Adi Shankara.
In the Divyamangala Dhyana chapter of the Rajarajeshwari Tantra of RudraYamala, the abode of Maha Tripura Sundari in the Manidweepa in the midst of the ocean of nectar is described at length. Similar description is also found in the LSN.
Adi Shankara, on his part, also mentions about this in his various compositions such as Soundarya Lahari, Tripura Sundari Vedapada and Mantra Matrika Pushpa Mala.
This form of worship of Devi and the Chakras is exactly what is followed by the Samaya school of Srividya Upasakas. The Samayachara worship mainly deals with worship of the Sri Chakra mentally and internally and meditating upon them.
