LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM
@ S. Subramaniam
कामेश्वरास्त्र निर्दग्ध सभण्डासुर शून्यका (82)
Kameshwara Astra Nirdagdha Sabhandasura Sunyaka (82)
Meaning:
Devi burned down Bhandasura along with his capital city Shunyaka by the fire from the astra of Kameshwara (Lord Shiva).
Interpretation:
When Devi shot the Kameshwara Astra, Bhandasura had no answer to it. He gracefully accepted it, watched the city he built getting reduced to ashes and himself got burnt.
Kameshwara form of Lord Shiva is the Supreme form of the Lord. The Astra named after him is similarly Supreme in nature. Vak Devis end this part of Sahasranamam with a slight hint on renunciation. Renunciation is one of the steps to realize the ultimate truth, the ultimate knowledge.
The Battle with Bhandasura
Finally, Sri Lalitambika killed Bhandasura with Maha Kameshwara Astra. She burned down Shunyaka, the capital city of Bhanda as well and only land remained where it stood.
There was joy everywhere. Devas showered flowers. Musical instruments played tunes of victory. Gandharvas sang and apsaras danced. The victorious Sri Lalita Parameshwari returned to her camp along with Shakti Sena.
Author's Notes:
Readers should note one point here. A great fighter that he was Bhandasura probably realized that his end has come and that's why he did not retaliate. This realization is the realization of the ultimate truth. It is the point of Mukti, the point of Liberation. It lasts for only a few moments and those moments are the most wonderful moments.
When one realizes that Truth there is no further way to go. The next step is to get merged with the supreme Brahman, the one and only one Adi Parashakti.
Noble souls realize this truth at the end of their long journey of meditation and get merged with the Adi Parashakti, while evil forces, such as Mahishasura, Bhandasura etc., realizes it at the point Mukti and it's Devi and Devi alone who can provide the Mukti.
