LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM - Namah # 73

LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM

         @ S. Subramaniam

नित्या पाराक्रमाटोप निरीक्षण समुत्सुका (73)

Nitya Parakramatopa Nirikshana Samutsuka (73)

Meaning

Lalitha Parameswari was happy on observing the valour of the fifteen tithi Nitya Devi-s during the war.

Interpretation:

Origin of Nitya Devi-s: On the request of Devi Parvati for a separate Tantra, Lord Shiva created the Nitya Devata Tantra. Devi then requested Shiva to reveal about Nitya Devis in detail.

Lord Shiva reveals all information about Nitya Devi-s and informs Parvati about the importance of worship of Nitya Devi-s. He further adds that all the regular procedures are not necessary in the case of Nitya Devi worship and it can be practiced by anyone interested in it.

However, Sri Vidya Upasakas perform tithi Nitya Devata worship in an elaborate manner by drawing triangles etc. It should be understood that these Nitya Devi-s themselves worship Lalitha Devi all the time.

The Battle with Bhandasura

The fifteen chiefs of the Bhanda Army with their fifteen akshauhinis came out and straight away started attacking the Shakti Sena. It was night time and the surprise attack by the invisible Asura army took the Shakti Sena by surprise. Several soldiers of Shakti Sena were either severely wounded or got killed. The Asura Sena rapidly moved very close to Devi's chariot Chakra Raja.

The fifteen  Nitya devis then approached  Lalitha Devi and complained about the unrighteous manner in which the daityas were fighting and the Asura army restoring to gross violation of the basic rules of war and committing atrocities. They sought the permission of Lalithambika to eliminate these daityas.

The Niyta Devi-s then sprang upon the attackers and each of the fifteen chiefs of Bhanda's Army fell prey to each of the Nitya Devi. The commander of the army Kutilaksha continued to put up a brave front but  Kameshwari Nitya Devi pierced his private parts with her sharp arrows and he was forced to leave the battlefield.

After returning victorious, the Nitya Devi-s paid their respects to Lalithambika and worshipped her. Devi was extremely delighted at this.

Author's Notes:

As already explained, Devi cannot be brought within the normal feelings like delight, happiness, joyous etc. In this Namah the catch word seems to be the Nitya Devi-s offering their respects and worshipping Devi.

Several religious faiths often point out about the practice of Polytheism (worshipping many Gods) in Hinduism as opposed to Monotheism (worship of one God). Here it is extremely important to understand that Hinduism also advocates only Monotheism and the one and only Supreme power is Devi Lalithambika. Lalita Paramesaari is  the ADYA SHAKTI who is Sat, Ananda and Poorna – Sadanandapoorna.

Worship of any other deity is only an option and in whatever form a deity is worshipped, it ultimately reaches the lotus feet of Sri Lalithambika.
