LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM - Namah # 109

LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM

@ S. Subramaniam

महासक्तिः (109)

Maha saktih  (109)

Meaning:

Devi has a great liking for festivities. Alternatively it can be said Devi had great liking for being worshiped.

Interpretation:

It should be noted very clearly here that the namah refers to Devi as Mahasakti and not Mahashakti.

and

The namah, for easy understanding, should be split as महा + असक्तिः

Maha means festivals and Asaktih means great liking.  She has a great liking for festivities.  Here festival means Her union with Lord Shiva.  Festivities are of two kinds.  One that is celebrated internally (associated with mind) and another is external worship (associated with body). Devi is described to be fond of a internal worship.

Quote from Soundarya Lahari:

Saundarya Lahai (verse 9) Mahim Muladhare, (meaning – the earth is placed in Muladhara) also refers to only internal worship, worshiping Devi in her subtlest form Kundalini.

Author's Notes:

When Devi is in association with Lord it's festive time for her. Devotees showers praises on Devi while worshiping her which pleases her immensely.

In Devi Mahatmyam too there is a reference to praising Devi

सर्वभूता यदा देवी भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनी ।

त्वं स्तुता स्तुतये का वा भवन्तु परमोक्तयः ॥५॥

Sarva Bhuutaa Yadaa Devii Bhukti Mukti Pradaayinii |

Tvam Stutaa Stutaye Kaa Vaa Bhavantu Parama Uktayah ||5||

Meaning:

Salutations to you O Devi, When You are praised as being present in all beings and granting worldly prosperity and liberation. When You are praised thus, what better expression can there be for for praising You.
