LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM - Namah # 104

LALITHA SAHASRANAMAM

@ S. Subramaniam

 रुद्रग्रन्थि विभेदिनी (104)

Rudra granthi vibhedini (104)

Meaning:

Devi breaks the Rudra granthi, last of the three knots, and proceeds to Sahasrara Chakra.

Interpretation:

Rudra Granthi, the last of three knots, lies between Anja Chakra located in the middle of the eyebrow region and Sahasrara Chakra located at the center of the skull.

It may be noted that according to Sri Vidya tradition, apart from the Rudra Granthi knot, two more minor chakras are located between Ajna and Sahasrara called Trikuti and Bhrikuti. These are meant only for high level Upasakas / Sadhakas and not common man.

Once this last hurdle, the Rudra Granthi, is crossed, all the vasanas (impressions) go away leading to supreme knowledge. However this is the most difficult granthi to cross and blessings by Gurus are absolutely necessary for doing this. Trying to achieve this independently is a futile exercise as Rudra Granthi can be unfastened only under the guidance of a Guru.

Adi Shankara has emphasized the importance of paying obedience to Guru. He himself has set an example of paying respects to his Guru in the opening verse of his composition Viveka Chudamani.

Similar to Brahma Granthi and Vishnu Granthi  there is no specific mention about Rudra Granthi and Devi piercing through it in Soundarya Lahari.

Author's notes:

To sum up the study about the three Granthis, it can be said that the desire to create is Brahma Granthi, the desire to hold on is Vishnu Granthi and to denounce everything is Rudra Granthi.

True freedom and bliss cannot be experienced as long as one is not free from all the attachments.

To pass through the Rudra Granthi knot, one has to free himself/herself from the volley of thoughts. Let the thoughts come and go, do not restrict them. If you stop giving importance to the thoughts they do not become desires. In this way the goal can be achieved.
