Akal Bodhan - Story behind the picture
On the sixth day of Navarathri, the Shashti, a ritual called Akal Bodhan (awakening of Maa Durga) is observed. It is generally believed that it was Lord Rama who started the practice of performing the Bodhan Puja. He did so to seek Devi's blessings to defeat Ravana in the battle.
As he could not find any priest with sound knowledge in performing this kind of an elaborate Puja, he, as advised by Sage Agastya, sent Hanuman to request Ravana to conduct the Puja. Ravana, being a devoted Brahmin, could not refuse and guided Rama to perform the Bodhan Puja. However, this version is not very authentic as such a story is not mentioned anywhere in the original Valmiki Ramayana.
